How to prepare?
On this page you'll find the main stages you need to go through before surgery — from your first visit to the audiologist to discharge from the hospital — as well as which tests need to be done before admission.

Patient roadmap before cochlear implantation surgery
Stage 1. Initial audiologist consultation
After significant hearing loss is identified, you need to see an audiologist at a Mir Sluha branch or your local clinic. Based on the examination results, the doctor determines whether cochlear implantation surgery is indicated.
Stage 2. Diagnosis confirmation
After 3–4 months, a follow-up audiologist consultation is held to confirm the diagnosis and issue a report confirming indications for cochlear implantation.
Stage 3. Surgeon consultation
With the examination results, you need to see the surgeon at the chosen clinic. After the consultation, a recommendation for surgery is issued.
Stage 4. Registration on the hospitalization portal
The treating physician at your local clinic enters the patient's information into the bg.eisz.kz portal and specifies the hospitalization date.
Stage 5. Preparing for hospitalization
Once the hospitalization date is confirmed (a notification from number 1414), you can begin preparing for admission to the hospital.
List of tests for cochlear implantation surgery

1. Audiological testing
Purpose: to confirm the degree and nature of hearing loss.
- Pure-tone audiometry
- Speech audiometry
- Impedance testing (tympanometry)
- Otoacoustic emissions (OAE)
- Auditory brainstem response (ABR)
- ASSR (Auditory Steady-State Response) — if needed
- Audiologist's report
2. Temporal bone CT scan
Purpose: to assess the anatomical structure of the inner ear and identify possible bony labyrinth abnormalities.
3. Psychological assessment for adults
- A psychiatrist's certificate confirming no contraindications
- Electroencephalography (EEG)
4. Speech-language pathologist consultation
Purpose: to assess the ability to perceive sound and predict the success of hearing and speech rehabilitation.
5. General health assessment
Purpose: to rule out contraindications for surgery.
- Complete blood count and blood chemistry
- Coagulation panel
- Urinalysis
- Electrocardiogram (ECG)
- Examination by a general practitioner, neurologist and anesthesiologist
